The Second Laugh
In Genesis 21:6, we find the story of Sarah, who gave birth to Isaac at the impossible age of 90. The verse reads, “Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." This verse is a powerful example of how God can turn your sorrows into joy and fill your lives with laughter.
Sarah’s journey to motherhood was filled with doubt, frustration, and sorrow. She had longed for a child for many years, and it seemed like an impossible dream. However, God had promised her and Abraham a child and fulfilled that promise in His perfect timing. When Sarah held Isaac in her arms, she understood the miraculous nature of his birth and couldn't help but laugh in amazement and joy.
This story serves as a reminder that God is always faithful to His promises, even when they seem impossible. It shows us that no matter how hopeless a situation may seem, God can turn it around and bring joy out of sorrow.
You may have laughed in disbelief, thinking you could never get well, never get out of debt, or never break an addiction, but you can take comfort in knowing that God is always working behind the scenes, and His plans are always for your good. Just as Sarah experienced the second laugh of joy after years of sorrow, you, too, will see influence, resources, and talent coming out in ways you never dreamed. You will laugh in amazement and be overjoyed and wonder, thinking, “Wow, God! Look how You have shown out in my life.”
